Narrow gates no problem for Almajdouie in Saudi Arabia

Apr 9, 2014

Almajdouie Logistics (MLC), member to the Worldwide Project Consortium WWPC for Saudi Arabia, was awarded a contract by Samsung Engg., for the customs clearance & transportation to MLC of heavy and oversized packages of their Co2 project which is located around 350 kms south of Jubail. Out of the total 13 units, one unit named GDU (Gas Dehydration Unit) with dimensions of 16.8 x 4.9 x 9.2m (LWH) weighing 63.4 tons was critical due to its height and giving consideration to the relatively long road journey.

Though cargo was not heavy but looking to the over height MLC Engineering team suggested moving the cargo using a 10*2 side by side trailer. Operations followed & decided to move cargo using side by side trailer. Prior to movement start it was necessary to conduct a final site survey in order to make sure a hassle free haulage until the erection point. During the survey it was found that the main gate of the plant was only 5.5m width and non removable, whereas the MLC trailer was 7.5m in width.

The Almajdouie experts worked on the options available and concluded that for the journey from Jubail up to the gate they would use side by side trailers, considering the safety of the cargo. At a later point the cargo was shifted, using a single 10 axle trailer in order get through the narrow gate. Finally the cargo was safely delivered and erection work carried out as scheduled.
